News record: [221251] A new wave in biodiversity informatics

Marking the 250th anniversary of Systema Naturae by Carl Linnaeus ichthyologist and informatics scientist Richard Pyle has organized a milestone in biodiversity informatics. The publication in Zootaxa:
Pyle, R.L., J.L. Earle & B.D. Greene. 2008. Five new species of the damselfish genus Chromis (Perciformes: Labroidei: Pomacentridae) from deep coral reefs in the tropical western Pacific. Zootaxa 1671: 3-31.

ties together multiple bioinformatics projects using ZooBank, the Biodiversity Collections Index, FishBase, Consortium for the Barcode of Life, Morphbank, open access through ZooTaxa, DigiMorph and many others. The Morphbank images include images of definitive characters, radiograph scans and annotated images of the type specimens with links to data archived by other bioinformatics projects. Have a look at Chromis abyssus (Deep Blue Chromis) which was high-resolution X-ray CT scanned by DigiMorph, Chromis brevirostris, Chromis circumaurea, Chromis degruyi, and Chromis earina
